Purpose of This Consent Form
The Rock School (TRS) uses Educational Technology Tools (ETT) — such as Google Workspace for Education, IXL, Duolingo, and others — to support student learning. These services are provided by outside companies (“third-party providers”) and may require the school to share limited student information (such as name, grade, and school email) in order to create and manage accounts.
These obligations come from more than one source: the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) governs the collection of personal information from students under 13; the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) governs the sharing of information from students’ education records; and The Rock School’s agreement with Google separately requires parental consent before students under 18 may use certain additional services. To meet these requirements, TRS obtains parental consent each school year for students who are assigned individually identifiable accounts.
By completing this form, you authorize The Rock School to provide consent, on your behalf, for your child’s use of electronic educational tools while enrolled at TRS for the 2026–2027 school year. This authorization allows the school to consent to the current and future ETT services it selects for instructional use, without requiring a separate form for each individual tool.
Students Impacted
Consent is required for students in grades 5–12, because these are the students who are assigned individually identifiable accounts for most ETT services — with more limited access in the lower part of that range and expanded access as students approach high school. For everyday digital learning tools, younger students (in some cases as early as grade 1) use only generic, shared accounts that do not identify them individually or collect personal information about them, so this consent is not required for that use. Required, school-administered assessments — such as NWEA’s MAP Growth, which is given to students in all grades — are handled separately under the school’s assessment agreements and FERPA’s school official exception, and are not governed by this form.
The Tools We Use
The primary ETT provider at TRS is Google. We use Google Workspace for Education, which provides essential services such as Gmail, Google Drive, and Google Docs. We also use some of Google’s Additional Services (e.g., YouTube, Google Earth, Google Photos). Other ETT providers in use at TRS

Access to these tools is essential to classroom instruction and to daily student work at TRS. For this reason, consent is required for enrollment — a student without consent on file will be unable to complete required coursework.
